10th Annual Comics' Choice Awards
Registration is Now Open
2020 COMICS' CHOICE AWARDS
2020 has certainly proven to be the year for significant change. It was always the intention of the CCA team to make some fundamental changes for the 10th Birthday celebration, so on the positive side, it’s quite fitting.
The Comics’ Choice Awards is the longest-running, most successful comedy industry recognition platform on the continent.
For 2020, The CCA’s continues to evolve. With a record number of comedians continuing to register in South Africa and across the African continent, the CCA’s continues to hold the African Comedy flag high.
Ever innovating to improve the platform, 2020 sees the following changes being implemented:
Category timelines. The category timelines have been adjusted. This is done automatically by the system based on the start date you entered, so be sure to see which category you are in for 2020.
The Lifetime Achiever Award is replaced by the Comedy G Award, due to the timeline changes.
The Comic’s Pen Award category is being “put on ice” for 2020. We are not removing the category, and it will be reinstated in 2021. We are taking this year to better refine the category criteria to ensure it is of a higher, world-class standard.
There is a NEW Award category. The Online Comedy Award. This is to celebrate online comedy contributions and an exciting new channel of inclusiveness. Please be sure to read the category criteria for this award and enter if you meet the requirements.
We will be changing the format of the Newcomer Showcase. Instead of one showcase in JHB for 24 newcomers, we will be introducing 6 Newcomer showcases nationally. Allowing for up to 60 newcomers around the country to perform. We believe performing in your hometown/familiar region will ensure you give your best performance. All showcases will be filmed, streamed and available for everyone to view.
The nominee announcement will be made online. The top 5 nominees in each category will be announced digitally.
Once the 5 nominees in each category have been announced, the Audience Choice category is usually the only category that is re-opened for public voting. This year, we will be opening ALL categories to the public to vote for their favourite comedian out of the top five nominees.
The Main Awards Event and After Party may be moving to a different city! Keep an eye on the Comics’ Choice website and social pages for updates regarding this.
Once again, feedback gathered from the industry has been incorporated wherever possible. Upgraded definitions on the Terms and Conditions; Award categories and category entry eligibility criteria; Improvements to the system code and a revision of the voting process.
The organisers promise a smooth and seamless voting process. Still, another brilliant series of comedy industry gatherings to recognise your excellence.
The CCA’s remains a world-class celebration of African comedy talent.
